Technical Issues / Re: Does anyone here have an X...

Howdy.  My NX7000 (2003 UK model) is still quite perky.  The graphics drivers have recently decided to blue screen with any fullscreen Flash, but I guess it's a W7/driver problem more than anything (it was fine a couple months ago).  I think I'll revert back to XP soon.  I do have a slightly fidgety trackpad every so often.  Again, mostly with Flash doing its thing.

I do however find DX8.1 a pain - you really want DX9 as a minimum.  I think this is the real beginning of programmes (games) disappearing out of reach for this 7 1/2 year old machine.  Booting and running full res is no problem though.  But no transparency.

PS I've upgraded CPU, RAM and HD.  Graphics remain as crap as ever.

I think I'll push it for another few years to reach the full decade.  Then throw it out the window.  Get a record or something.  Will this forum even be alive then?

I have run Ubuntu on my X1000 before but never got the wireless to work.

I've tried Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Xubuntu - I still don't understand the whole updating/installing programs.  Wireless and everything worked OK though - out of the box, including resolution and sound.  This mega-hub for program management idea seems good, but never works in a way that I get.  Windows I get, Linux (and OSX) are a massive mystery to me.

Sorry for those who tried getting WM7 to work with my step-by-step but couldn't.  I guess you have a newer version than the NX7000 I have - probably a need to find other drivers.  Or something.  For the record, the SD card reader remains unreadable.  I never used it back in the day, but now it's standard issue and would be quite useful!  Just waiting for that perfect netbook and I'm upgrading.

Technical Issues / Resolution Issue
Last post by Pooky - February 14, 2010, 06:22:40 AM
After battling with driver issues for a number of days now I finally installed the modded ones on the driver page and now I have the option to change my resolution. Thing is, if I go to what I want it to be at and it should be at (1680x1050), The screen displays, but the image just becomes kind of magnified so it extends beyond the screen's boundaries instead of fitting all onto the screen.

Can someone help me with this?#

Thanks

Currently I have the 30204 (compaq) driver set installed.

When trying to manually upgrade to the driver set you posted from the HP site, it says "Windows has determined that the driver software for your device is up to date".

If I uninstall the 30204 (compaq) driver set, windows reverts to the Standard VGA Adapter.  If I then try to install your drivers from the HP site, it doesn't detect and just says the VGA adapter is up to date.

I really want to get this working in W7, but if I can't sleep or hibernate, it becomes pretty useless.  Is there anyway I can get either the HP or Asus drivers installed?

For reference, I have the X1000, which may be slightly different from the nx7000.

So, it is still unclear.

When you select update driver, then manually...

- Select bottom choice (browse my computer..)
- Untick "show only compatible hardware".
- Now you can select Mobility Radeon 9000. It's the same card as 9200.

Hi,

I've had my X1000 for 6 years now and have upgraded the CPU and RAM in this time, but it still works flawlessly and has not broken down even once. I'm amazed at how reliable this machine is.

If your graphics card doesn't work, there might be an issue with the motherboard.

Technical Issues / Does anyone here have an X1000...

I just put an eBay-purchased video card in my old X1000 to no avail.  It looked like it was going to boot up but stalled halfway through.  After powering down and back up, I get a black screen and the clicking sound from the hard drive or optical drive, I can't tell.

Has anyone successfully resurrected one of these machines with a similar problem?

Has anyone had an X1000 that has never had any issues?

I just blew the dust off of my old X1000 (I think it's actually a 1015). I haven't used it in a few years, but I still LOVE this computer! Problem is I stopped using it because it was beginning to have hard drive problems and crash a lot...I backed it up on an external drive and forgot about it. I've got a dinky little netbook now for mobility and would like to bling out the X1000 for my home bound workhorse. First, I'd love to take it all apart and give it a cool paint job...I'd use it mostly for HD graphics programs...building ads & editing HD photos for ads; MS Word/Excel; would be doing lots of large file downloads so a fast wifi would be essential; finally, while I don't do online gaming, I'd like to use it to record as a DVR. I'm not a computer guy, but I am a do it your selfer...does anyone have specs or a do it yourself youtube that would help me turn my old buddy into a hot rod? Thanks in advance for any help.

PS...Any feedback on using Ubuntu on the X1000? I have it on my netbook and another laptop and seem to like it.

It seems I can only manually install the 30204 driver set on my X1000 which does not allow the pc to sleep or hibernate.

If I do not install the 30204 set first, and I try to update to either the asus or the hp drivers, it just says the Standard VGA adapter is up to date.

If I install the 30204 set, then try to manually update to one of the newer drivers, it says the 9200 mobility is up to date.

Not sure what else I can do at this point to get sleep/hibernate working properly.
