Technical Issues / Re: 4gb sd card / Fat32
June 22, 2006, 09:16:11 AM
FYI - I found a solution that works and is even faster than USB 2.0 or Firewire.  The Delkin CardBus SD card reader fits into the PCMCIA slot, reads the 4gb SD card perfectly and is super fast.

The computer had been on for several hours when this happened, so hopefully it is not the same problem.  I was able to turn it off by holding down the power key and then turn it on using the power key again.  It hasn't happened again but I am now hypervigilant.

Thanks for your help.

Technical Issues / Re: squeaky lcd hinges
June 15, 2006, 04:26:49 PM
WD-40 worked best for me, but I had to expose the hinges by removing the front screen panel to make it effective (spraying without this didn't work).  I only wish I had done this sooner because like many of you I got cracks on the plastic screen border from the tight hinges.

Could anyone please describe the black screen issue for me?  I would like to understand whether this is a progressive problem or does it happen all of a sudden.  If it is progressive what are the symptoms, timecourse, etc?

Today my screen went black, and there was no response to any keys - including Ctrl-alt-del.  I power cycled and it has been fine since.  Is this the dreaded black screen problem?  I saw some threads on fixes but I am not sure if this is what I have?

Thanks.

Technical Issues / 4gb sd card / Fat32
June 14, 2006, 03:44:17 PM
Anyone know if it is possible to read a fat32 formatted sd card in the built in card reader?  I have searched the net but not found anything helpful.  I imagine a new driver would work but I can't seem to find one newer than '03.

I am trying to read a 4gb SD card in the slot.  If this doesn't work I'll be looking for a PCMCIA solution.

Thanks.
