Sorry for late reply..

Yes, I did a fresh install in separate partition. As a matter of fact, I replaced my Vista installation and keep XP, which I use for compatibility reasons.

And no, no compatibility warnings. Just like installing Vista.

Technical Issues / X1010 Just Won't Boot
Last post by ezgoldin - May 13, 2009, 07:37:44 PM
My Presario X1010 had been working beautifully for 2 years since swapping out my video card for a brand new one.  A couple of weeks ago, she wouldn't boot.  Just got clicking from the optical drive.  Googling the problem led me to the quick fix of removing the battery and starting the computer powered only by the AC adapter, which worked a few times, but isn't working now.  Swapped out the MB with an ebay replacement, but STILL the same CD drive clicking and no POST.  No error messages, no screen activity seen at all.  Hard drive spinning, blue wifi and green power lights on.  Swapped out my stock 1.3 CPU with a 1.7 spare.  Same symptoms.  Any ideas?  What am I missing?  Thanks.

bill,

Did you do a fresh install?  I was previously running vista and did an "upgrade" now that the RC is out.  It started the install process and was unpacking files then my pc restarted, returned to vista and gave me a popup that my pc was not compatible, not detailed explanation.  Did you experience this at all?  I may try a clean in stall.  thanks in advance.

I upgraded mine yesterday from a 1.4 Banias to a 1.7 Dothan.  The chip only cost me $27 on ebay including shipping!  It's a hell of an upgrade for the money, I can already tell the difference in WoW, which has always run on my X1000 but has been borderline unplayable since the latest expansion.

Thanks for the guide.

As in Vista, you can choose between Omega 5.6 or similar package. I use SP31674 - drivers for nc4000. Don't really know if they are older, but they work fine. I used manual update and point the folder... Oh, and uncheck only compatible hardware - as I pick mobility radeon 9000.

I am not interested in games. Last thing I played on this machine was one NFS, but don't remember which one...

Quote from: bili_39 on April 11, 2009, 11:57:02 AMI have put Windows 7 (7077) on my nx7010 and it actually runs quite good. An usual problem with graphic driver (similar to Vistas), otherwise no problem.

Which driver did you install in windows 7?

I have an issue where it won't work, even in XP, with any driver newer than Catalyst 5.6 (June 2005).  I was able to force the XP 5.6 drivers (since vista didn't even exist back then) to install in Vista but even though it worked ok on the desktop I couldn't launch any games, etc.  I eventually reverted back to XP.

Did you use a similar method to get it working in windows 7 or are you just using an external monitor?

Hi to all!

Few months without a new post... There isn't much of traffic about these machines anymore.
For anybody to know: I have put Windows 7 (7077) on my nx7010 and it actually runs quite good. An usual problem with graphic driver (similar to Vistas), otherwise no problem.
Returning from hibernation is now very quick. In Vista sometimes takes forewer.

For Sale/Trade by Owner / FS: X1000 Not Working
Last post by MarkofCain - March 01, 2009, 02:13:43 PM
For Sale:
This laptop lasted me almost six years. I am very happy with the quality and durability of the x1000. Unfortunately, it crapped out 2 weeks ago. The laptop powers on, but it does not post. I figured it is either the mobo or the processor. I don't have the time or expense to repair it, so if anyone knows how to repair it or wants to Frankenstein it for parts please email me.

Specs:
Processor: 1.4Ghz "Banias" Intel Centrino
Memory: 2GB PC 2700
Video: 64MB Radeon Mobile
Screen: 15.4" SXGA+ (1620 x 1080)
Optical: DVD/CDRW
Wireless 802.11B and Bluetooth
Battery + Power Supply

Not Included:
Hard drive

Accessories:
Soft carrying case.
PR1000 Docking Station with additional power supply

I am wanting to sell this as a whole. If I get low ball offers (i.e. not enough to pay for the memory upgrade) or if there is a large response for specific parts, I'll just part it out myself. Thanks. You can email me at JoshWeiss16@gmail.com with all questions and offers.

Technical Issues / any suggestion for 5v supply
Last post by biophysics - February 04, 2009, 08:39:57 AM
Hi
Any suggestions where I can get 5V from from the motherboard ?  Since all of my usb ports died, I am using a pcmcia->usb adapter. Without 5v power to it I cannot power external hard disks and keyboard simultaneously.

I got myself a very small hub so thought of some how fixing it inside .
