Hi, new to the forums and I am thinking about upgrading my current hd a 4200RPM drive to a 7200RPM. I read another post about the drive being ata-5, well I looked at newegg and they have ata-6, now my question is ... is ata-5 compatible with ata-6. By the way this is the drive I was thinking about buying http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822146020

That drive will work fine, ATA5 and 6 are completely compatible.  I'm using a 100GB Seagate 5400RPM drive and I believe that's ATA6 as well.

Which model is your drive: ST9100823A or ST9100824A? A few weeks before I bought the newer one (824A), but it's not that quiet I'm used to. According to all reviews I read the Seagate 5400.2 should be one of the most silent drives. Ok, the performance is amazing compared to my old 4200rpm IBM 40GB. But there are still doubts, if the 823A model would has been a little quieter.

I just purchased a Seagate ST9100823A hard drive - 100 GB and 5400 rpm. Is this what you installed? Are you happy with the performance?

Yeah, this is the drive, I've been very happy with this drive.  It's not the fastest, but it's very good anyway.
