Hi to all!

Few months without a new post... There isn't much of traffic about these machines anymore.
For anybody to know: I have put Windows 7 (7077) on my nx7010 and it actually runs quite good. An usual problem with graphic driver (similar to Vistas), otherwise no problem.
Returning from hibernation is now very quick. In Vista sometimes takes forewer.

Which driver did you install in windows 7?

I have an issue where it won't work, even in XP, with any driver newer than Catalyst 5.6 (June 2005).  I was able to force the XP 5.6 drivers (since vista didn't even exist back then) to install in Vista but even though it worked ok on the desktop I couldn't launch any games, etc.  I eventually reverted back to XP.

Did you use a similar method to get it working in windows 7 or are you just using an external monitor?

bili_39

As in Vista, you can choose between Omega 5.6 or similar package. I use SP31674 - drivers for nc4000. Don't really know if they are older, but they work fine. I used manual update and point the folder... Oh, and uncheck only compatible hardware - as I pick mobility radeon 9000.

I am not interested in games. Last thing I played on this machine was one NFS, but don't remember which one...

bill,

Did you do a fresh install?  I was previously running vista and did an "upgrade" now that the RC is out.  It started the install process and was unpacking files then my pc restarted, returned to vista and gave me a popup that my pc was not compatible, not detailed explanation.  Did you experience this at all?  I may try a clean in stall.  thanks in advance.

Sorry for late reply..

Yes, I did a fresh install in separate partition. As a matter of fact, I replaced my Vista installation and keep XP, which I use for compatibility reasons.

And no, no compatibility warnings. Just like installing Vista.

Hi,

I've managed to install the driver ok, and the internal laptop display works ok, but the external LCD is stuck at 1280x1024. Anyone else with the same problem and hopefully a fix?
I also cannot switch just to the external display, fn+f4 doesnt work, and if I try to do in display settings it says Cannot save settings (only if I set external LCD to be the main display)

I haven't used my X1000 in almost a year, but its such a wonderful piece of hardware, I am going to format it and install Windows 7 RC on it today, I'll keep you guys updated.

Just finished installing Windows 7 RC on the X1000 its running great.  I am using a 1.7Ghz CPU and 1 Gig of ram.  I had the problem with the video card like above, just manually install the built in ATI Radeon Mobility 9000 works great at 1280x800 32bit.  Also when you first install Windows 7 and plug it into your network it will do an update, after that update, go into the Device Manager and do a Scan for Hardware changes, it will automatically install all the missing drivers with on exception:

Intel(R) 82801DBM LPC Interface Controller - 24CC

Has anyone been able to find a Vista driver that will work for the above.  On Intel's web site the only chipset drivers I could find are for Windows XP lol.

Heh. No way. You need radeon 9600  or better.

I was planning on installing W7 as well, but are you saying there aren't any display drivers that will work?  I have the 16x10 screen, and if were stuck at a lower resolution, it would totally kill any desire to run W7.

Hi All,

Can't help tinkering with my NX7000 - 6 years now is it?  Blimey!

Anyway, the easiest way to get native resolution in W7 is as follows:

1. Install W7;
2. Download the latest XP drivers from HP (at this time, for me it's sp30204.exe);
3. Run the .exe (which will fail - note the folder it installs in, again for me it's under C:\swsetup\SP30204)*;
4. Go to Device Manager;
5. Right-click and "update driver software" under "Display adapters";
6. "Browse my computer";
7. Point to the relevant folder;
8. Full 1680x1050 goodness and "Mobility Radeon 9200" correctly identified.

I haven't tried external displays - feel free to give it a go and report back.

Quite why this hasn't been spelled out before I don't know - such a simple task and it took me ages to figure out.  Deliberately cryptic or incomplete answers should mean an internet ban.  For a couple days maybe.

*UPDATE: the latest HP drivers don't seem to like hibernate, sleep or full screen flash (Youtube, 4OD, iPlayer).  I suggest downloading this driver pack from Asus ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/Pub/asus/nb/A4D/VGA_XP_2K_060102.zip, unzip it to somewhere sensible and go to point 4 above.  It's a newer driver (2006) which seems to have more recent Vista (and 7) compatibility - everything (other than Aero) seems to work.  Enjoy!

Hi Mr Cin!
Good to see someone still using this machines (my nx7010 is still running good enough to keep me from buying new notebook!).
Great find - these Asus drivers, but I think they are the same as Omega 5.6 or SP that I mentioned in 3rd post.

Nice work with this walkthrough - it is basically the same as my few lines. But it has been described before for Vista, so I didn't bother to do it again. Sorry if it was misleading in any way.

I would reply before, but someone banned me from internet... ;-)

Have a nice day

Does anyone get spontaneous reboot problems? I've installed W7 Ultimate on nx7010 with ATI driver for XP. Everything works great apart from occasional reboot, especially if laptop is left alone for couple of hours. The Event Log states: "The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000008e".

I wonder if this could be related to one of the two following things:
1. Video card driver
2. RAM - Originally there were 2x256 MB, but I took one of them out and added 1x1 GB (total: 1x256MB + 1x1GB). However, Microsoft Memory Diagnostics didn't find any problem with RAM.

Anyone with simmilar experience?

Ok here are my issues with W7 now.

1)  Trying to manually update the drivers using the Asus one from Mr Cin does not work, however I am able to manually update using the (older) compaq drivers.  I now have the native resolution but with the sleep/hibernate issues.  Since then, I have tried further updating to the Asus, but windows is telling me I already have the most up to date.  Is there a way to get this installed?

2)  I also noticed that the old intel chipset drivers do not work in windows 7.  I tried downloading a newer set but that doesn't work either.  Are you guys even installing a chipset driver?

3)  I believe since no chipset drivers were installed, I have a unknown device.  The location is "Intel 82801DBM LPC Interface Controller - 24CC".  Anyone know what this is and how to fix?
