Hello all,

X1010CA model (Canadian X1000).

Couple months ago, I started getting the dreaded black screen on power up.. and the occasional freeze whilst in Windows (with the horizontal lines).  The press-down-on-67y-keys fixed this for a while.  Last week it (vid card I guessed) killed itself.  Black screen on power up, even after applying pressure to 67y area.

I pulled the vid card out, it didn't look warped in anyway... so I went and bought another Radeon 32m card anyway.

Received it today, stuck it in, and still a black screen on power up.

What could the problem be?  I bought the VC from laptoktek (or w/e) off eBay.  Read one post where the user got his DOA.  So I know the new card being DOA is possible.  Just wondering if there's anything else really.

Whenever I power it up, the cd-rom clicks every 2-3 secs, non-stop.  The 5-sec power button shutdown still works.

Ideas anyone?

it's probably a bad card, but I don't have much experience in this area as I'm still running the original card in my laptop.  Granted that I did buy mine later and could have a different revision.

hey Hayaku,
check your memory modules out.  Just pull those one by one leaving either in and press the power button.
