Sorry for the scattered thoughts, but I do recall that there are issues solved by later versions (but probably not enough if you want a third-party wi-fi card).  What card does it have in it now, the Intel 2100 B-wireless?

Searched Google, it lead me to this site:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=0&prodSeriesId=332798&prodNameId=332800&swItem=hb-20316-1&swEnvOid=181&swLang=8&taskId=135&mode=3

The file you are looking for is "sp27857.exe."

P.S.  Glad to hear that the site is still useful to people!

Drivers / F.34 BIOS installation file
Last post by Cooper - January 09, 2009, 01:45:30 PM
I just bought my wife a new laptop so I've inherited her X1010US.  Thanks to this website, I've learned that everything that ails it can be easily fixed.  I've already ordered a new power jack and once that's installed and working I'll move on to upgrading the processor, RAM, etc.  So thanks to everyone for all the information here.

I've seen comments that the F.34 BIOS was fine but the newer F.55 BIOS prevents other 802.11b/g cards from being installed.  Naturally, HP only has the F.55 BIOS available for download from HP.  My machine has the F.02 BIOS installed, so I thought upgrading it might resolve some of the issues we've been having with it.  However I can't find this file available anywhere.  Does anyone have the file they can send me or post?

Thanks!

sorry for the late reply

I still have all the stock components in my x1000 with the wuxga screen. Playing 720p mkv files is a bit of a stretch for this machine... its not really up to it. Not sure how the upgrades would affect this.

Technical Issues / Output resolution of X1000 VGA...
Last post by burningrome - December 03, 2008, 01:30:03 PM
Hi -
haven't been on here since the server change. My trusty old X1000 is still working well. Lately I've been trying to use an external monitor with the same resolution 1600x1050 as the LCD, but connecting to the external monitor via the VGA output, it doesn't output 1600x1050, only 1280x1024. Any ideas why?

I was able to do this as well. I'm now using Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG.. I was able to bypass the whitelist by flashing modified bios and by disabling the CRC check from the windows hp flash utiliy. :p

can you post how to do that or post up the modified bios

stick with the intel 54g mini pci's otherwise you need to do some nasty hacks using Linux, not worth it.  Or you can use any card if you use the older original BIOS on the laptop.

Have a look here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Pentium_M_microprocessors

here:

http://processorfinder.intel.com/

and here:

I'd say the SL7EP should be fine, but I can't see anything about the SL8BA.  If you mean SL7BA, that should work.  If you mean SL86A, that won't work either.  That's assuming you have a 400MHz FSB which I'm sure you have but I'm too lazy to check that 100%.

For Sale/Trade by Owner / FS: Radeon 9200 64mb (sorta wo...
Last post by deluxe - November 01, 2008, 11:27:45 PM
I have a Radeon 9200 for the x1000/nx7000 here for sale.  It was the original card in my notebook (that I no longer have) that I replaced because it became flakey.  This card suffers from the common problems due to being warped by the heat.  Though, it seems some industrious people here have figured out how to fix these cards (glue? sandpaper?)

Anyway, this card was working intermittently when it was replaced.  It's since lived in an anti-static bag for a couple of years.  It also includes a plastic spacer made by ex-X1000 Forums user Whiteheat.  It can be used to counteract the warp (though it wasn't enough).

If you want it, it's all your's for $30, shipped.  Paypal only, will ship from South Korea to anywhere in the world.

If you're interested, mail me at maxwell at sonic.net.
I'll post here again once the card is sold.

Same problem I had.  I paid to have mine done.  Works like new again.
