Upgrades and Accessories / Re: X1010 Ram and Video Upgrade
September 10, 2007, 02:48:37 PM
That's not a complete answer, the seller can make an error and call his model a 1,8GHz Dothan,he buys the thing, and realizes that it's infact 1,86GHz or FSB533 Dothan!!
The right way to spot the 400FSB models is the numbers on the package/processor,he should only buy the ones that end with 5,meaning Dothan 745,or Dothan 755 or Dothan 765,that way he will get it right the first time!!

I was also using my X1005EA for rendering and movies, and the memory upgrade helped with the general performance (I had an older revision motherboard so my chipset only accepted PC2100 memory at that speed no matter which memory I put in,so you could use PC2700 or faster, but the motherboard will bring it down to PC2700 speed anyway),but I believe that you would also gain a lot by swaping that Banias@1.3 for a Dothan@1.73 or 1.86 or 2.0... and that would also be good for your battery too,it will last about 20% longer or so (Banias"drinks"25W of juice and Dothan only 21W)!

You can't swap your video card for a better model, you could only upgrade to a 64MB ATI Mobility 9200 and maybe keep that one as a spare one since you probably know that they ALL die after some time, but the chalenge for you would be to find a working 64MB ATI Mobility 9200,there are some on ebay ocasionaly, but mostly refurbished so It might work for months and even years,or it might not work at all, scam is a posibility on ebay!

Told you so! ;) My new HP nx9420 has C2D 5600 2x1,83GHz Merom and it's hot like hell, the fan is working almost non-stop and it's not pleasant to work on because of that, but it was necesary upgrade since I now render a building much much faster, and overal performance is great,if it wasn't for the heat and fan noise I wouldn't be sorry for giving my good old X1005EA to my brother, but I miss the silence and the"cool"work on it,however it looks like all CD and C2D are hot,so keep your X1000 working as long as posible, until something cooler gets out on the market!!

Thanks, Zoki! I've done more research and I gather that the 478-pin mPGAs definitely work on the Socket 479 mPGA. Not sure about the 479-ball mBGAs though. Did the 1.6 GHz Dothan give much noticeable improvement over the 1.3GHz Banias?

Mike
Oh yeah, laptop worked faster and the battery life jumped from very good (3-3 and 1/2 hours on average,4 if you do something"light"with lower screen light) to excelent (4 hours on average, over 5 hours if you only surf or do something"light"like that with your laptop with lower screen light) with a battery holding about 90% of original factory capacity!!
My brother is still using that 1005EA and he's pleased with it cause he uses it as a mulitimedia device (mostly movies) and for surfing since it's not very good for gaming and"hard work"and I barely found this Dothan in Serbia (we are not on paypal list so no ebay is available for shopping) so further upgrade was dificult and not worth the money, therefore I moved forward since I needed something with faster memory, better graphics and even better CPU for ArchiCAD and 3D Studio Max so I bought HP nx9420!! :) Hope my English was good enough and that you're happy with my answer!?

Actualy me and kf_man had that same dilemma a while ago when I was upgrading my processor, and I think the only thing you should look for is the package label,is it mPGA or mBGA and make sure that the FSB is 400,I think the versions ending with 5 and the ones ending with 8 (I think, those are low voltage models) don't have to fit for sure, but others ending with 0 should fit for sure,I bought one 1.6GHz Dothan (instead of Banias@1.3GHz) last year for 70 euros, and now they go for half that price so you won't lose much if you go ahead and buy one!!

Yup,Omega drivers solved the problems I had with COD and expansion pack for COD and COD2,while the official Compaq/HP driver was making problems!

You SOLD it to your father!? :)  I gave it to my bro cause his IBM R40 is weak compared to Compaq (integrated M6,atleast I think it's M6,ATI graphics vs Mobility 9200 with it's own 64MB memory, then 40GB vs 80GB HD,then 14.1" vs 15.4" TFT, then 2GHz Celeron 4M vs 1.6 Pentium M...) and I'm pretty satisfied with my new machine except for it's"loudnes"cause the fan turns most of the time, while the Pentium M machines are soooooo quiet, but I needed something better for CAD programs and ocasional gaming (COD,Hitman and stuff like that) to relax but slow memory and weak graphics are no good for eather of those things so upgrade was just matter of"any day now"!!I hope my English is good enough to understand my point and arguments for the abanding of very good X1000!

OR use the Omega drivers, but use the one based on Catalyst 5.6 cause latter version don't support 9200 Mobility!

It doesn't matter anymore,I gave my X1000 to my brother since the graphic card died on me,and he took it to repair and I got myself a nice nx9420 C2D machine!

Actually NO!!There are mPGA and mBGA sockets, those are Socket 479 that I need, and Socket 478 that people are offering me from broken laptops!!
My luck turned just yesterday, when I found two persons (after MONTHS of finding just people selling the S478 Dothan) who are wiling to sell S479 Dothan 1.6GHz (I don't need faster neither could I find it easy in Serbia) and they are asking about 60 euros, that's ~$80 US!
I think that's an OK price since there are not a lot of those things here (and my country is not suported by paypal,so no eBay) so I guess I'm buying those S479!!
P.S.Since you're the administrator, may I ask if you salvaged any of the case moding images from the original forum,or do you know which member did, cause I'm looking for a way to repair my laptop, since the scratches are realy bad to look at,and I remember couple of image tutorials on old forum where people made miracles with their X1000s!!

What will happen if I take this Dothan from a friends broken laptop-> http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-MOBILE-PM-725-2MB and put it into my Compaq Presario X1000 (1005EA) with Socket 479 unlike the Dothan above which is Socket 478?
Will it work at all,and if it would word, then how would it work (full capacity)?

Drivers / Re: Driver List
November 24, 2006, 05:23:27 PM
You might wanna try rad_w2kxp_omega_2642,this is the last Omega version of drivers (made from Catalist 5.6) that work with my X1005EA,cause with the Catalist driver I have problems with COD2 and this ones work perfectly!!
