My X1000 is having some boot problems recently and I wondered if anyone else had experienced the same thing and would offer some advice. When I try to start the machine it will start to boot and then just die right before it goes to the Windows XP screen.  It doesn't always respond to the power button like I think it should, but it's been doing that for a while now.  I have to push it numerous times to get it to start, then it dies!  It runs fine when I get it going, but I dread shutting the system down.  It could be a problem with the motherboard, I suppose.  Or it could have something to do with the new wireless mouse I got the other day.  I noticed that it restarted first try when I took the USB reciever out.  Maybe it doesn't like my mouse?  Any help would be appreciated.  Also, while we are on the subject, every now and then then my keyboard will just stop working and I have to reboot to get it going again.  Any ideas there?

General / Re: Roll Call

I'm still using my X1050 as my primary system.  I've had it for 2 or 3 years, I can't remeber.  I bought if from a friend when the LCD backlight went out.  I've repaired/upgraded it along the way and I'm still happy with it.  Parts and support are dissapearing, unfortunately, but I'm not serously looking to upgrade in the near future. My graphics card died like so many others, so I replaced it with a 64mb card(32mb originally).  I just put 1gb RAM in a couple weeks ago.  Should have done that a long time ago.

Upgrades and Accessories / Lightscribe drive
April 04, 2007, 05:43:27 PM
I'm looking to put a lightscribe drive in my X1K.  I'm thinking that a drive from an X6000 would work.  Although I might have to change the drive door(is that what it's called?).  Have any of you guys done an upgrade like this?  Is it hard to change the plastic on the drive?  Any thoughts from you guys are appreciated.

General / Hey! I'm crazy too!

I'm thrilled to have all of you on this site to share in my mental condition.  I have an X1050 that I bought, second hand, from a friend and I love it.  I was there when he bought it new and I always wanted it.  After the LCD inverter went out he bought a MAC and sold this one to me.  I have enough money buy a newer laptop, but I like fixing broken junk, it's fun for me.  And I'm glad to have friends like all you who have the same ambitions!

Here's the scoop on my machine.

1.4GHZ--Hope to upgrade to 2.0GHZ eventually
256MB RAM--Upgrading to 1GHZ soon
60G 7200rpm HD--Already upgraded from the 40G 4200rpm, but will probably go to a 100G 7200rpm later
32MB video card--Upgrading to 64MB soon
Stock WiFi(?)--Upgrading to stronger card with better antenna(maybe even external) soon
CDRW/DVD--Upgrading to lightscribe DVDRW if I can make it work
Case, stock for now--Planning to polish the aluminium lid and paint the plastics(Muscle car theme?)

Any suggestions from you guys?  Stuff I missed, or things that work and those that don't?
I look forward to seeing you all around here for a while.
