General / Re: Vista - Any luck yet?

hi guys sure has been awhile :)
i just put vista beta2 onto the old x1000 and it only boots into a blackscreen ;(
Same here with 1680 resolution. After installation I get a black screen. No other drivers fixed it.

External monitor works fine, but vista is no fun on this machine. Too slow (takes >350mb (!) ram), too ugly (DX8) and it doesn't work with my lcd.

Technical Issues / Laptoptek
August 25, 2006, 10:57:23 AM
Beware! Laptoptek doesn't sell new ones, mine was definitely a refurbished card! Maybe they work, maybe they don't. Mine came as DOA - dead on arrival. Laptoptek doesn't care about it, though they claim it on every auction. No mails regarding this will be answered!

Absolutely not recommended - take care!

Technical Issues / Re: Singing power supply problem
July 21, 2006, 01:47:08 PM
Hello,

Most likely your cable is broken. My English is far away to be perfect, so I made a photo:

At this point the cable likes to break. If you bend it here slightly, the singing sound should vary/disappear. The cable also gets very hot at this point, especially if you're charging the book at the same time. If your symptoms look similar, the cable can be fixed by cutting, removing a centimeter of it and solder it again. Of course this position is susceptible in the future, so a protection is inevitable. Maybe half of a ball pen or something like this.

... or you buy a new one :)

Technical Issues / Re: squeaky lcd hinges
July 21, 2006, 06:21:01 AM
I also used WD40 1,5 years ago. The lid still moves smooth, no squeaks anymore. I unscrewed both hinges from display and laptop and gave them plenty of WD40. Before they were extremely hard to bend, afterwards it was much better.

Sorry, I'm a linux noob and don't know which software to use for downclocking the card. In windows I prefer Centrino Hardware Control v1.8b1 (nothing above). You can lower cpu voltage and clock the card. Originally it runs with 250/220mhz. I've chosen 150/150 for my nx. In my opinion downclocking is nice to have (to play), but doesn't make the card live longer. I also don't believe the heat breaks them, it's more probably the chip fixation on the card. At newer ones the chip is glued (the red paste around). The more the laptop is carried and moved around, the sooner the card breaks up. Yes, this is only my opinion - maybe I'm totally wrong ;).

64MB *replaced*

It worked downclocked to 150/150mhz for 2,5 years.

Technical Issues / Re: How often should the fan run
June 25, 2006, 11:14:13 AM
In the beginning of last year I asked the author of NHC to integrate our temperature sensor twice. I also sent him a screenshot of hmonitor with the concrete chip model. Nothing happened since then. In my opinion he has plenty to do with fixing his newer NHC versions, our temperature likely will never be added.

Here you can contact him: http://www.p35-forum.de/board/board.php?boardid=73
Unfortunately he doesn't speak english (the english program gui and his website is translated by another person).

My fan turns on at 60°C. I use hmonitor to measure.

Thanks for your answer. Maybe your card still was ok, but it would have been only a matter of time. After 2-3 years every card failes.

Upgrades and Accessories / Re: Upgrading rams
June 24, 2006, 03:12:15 PM
It depends on wich chipset revision you have. You can check the revision with cpu-z. Start the program, look at "mainboard". A3 stands for the older chipset (SL6TJ on board), it can only handle 266mhz, regardless of how fast your rams are. B1 is the newer revision (SL752 chip on board) supporting DDR333 speed: if your ram is PC2700 or 3200, it'll run with 333mhz. However the slowest module determines the maximum speed. Maybe you have B1 revision and two different rams: one module is PC2100 and the other PC2700, you'll get DDR266 speed for both.

Hello tns1,

Where did you buy your card and has your new one this red glue around the corners at the chip?

Thank you.

Last weekend I tweaked my 2200BG too. With knoppix 3.9 (from edonkey) it worked immediately.
#14
Knoppix 4.0 doesn't work either. Errors while "sh load" ...

Of course Knoppix 3.8.2 / 3.9 is nowhere to download anymore.

Hint: don't try Knoppix 5.01. The 2200BG is not supported (!)
