I have a Radeon 9200 for the x1000/nx7000 here for sale.  It was the original card in my notebook (that I no longer have) that I replaced because it became flakey.  This card suffers from the common problems due to being warped by the heat.  Though, it seems some industrious people here have figured out how to fix these cards (glue? sandpaper?)

Anyway, this card was working intermittently when it was replaced.  It's since lived in an anti-static bag for a couple of years.  It also includes a plastic spacer made by ex-X1000 Forums user Whiteheat.  It can be used to counteract the warp (though it wasn't enough).

If you want it, it's all your's for $30, shipped.  Paypal only, will ship from South Korea to anywhere in the world.

If you're interested, mail me at maxwell at sonic.net.
I'll post here again once the card is sold.

The 2200BG works, as long as it's HP/Compaq OEM.  But, you can also mod the firmware on any 2200BG card so that it works with the latest bios.  I modded mine so that I could use channels 12-14, since after all, I am in Asia and I don't need no stupid 'merican limitations!

google for the info if you need it.

Also v.34 bios is fine.  Feel free to just stick with that and use ANY card.

Technical Issues / Re: LCD profile for NX7000

There was more than one maker of the 1680x1050 LCD, so there is more than one profile... But it's a moot point since nobody replied!

The computer's bios only accepts cards that were manufactured for this specfic notebook.  This "white list" didn't appear until after v.34 of the bios though, so if you flash v.34 you could probably use one of those combo cards.  It's worth a shot, you could always sell the card back on eBay.

General / Re: VISTA RTM - working???
November 15, 2006, 06:34:04 PM
I installed the Omega drivers based on Catalyst 5.6, and while they appeared to install correctly, they weren't in use on reboot.  So I manually installed the drivers using the old "Have Disk..." route that you should all be familiar with.  Vista then rebooted with the drivers and a proper looking screen, but complained about the ATI Control Panel being incompatible with Vista.

When I pull up the POWERPLAY settings for the card they seem unusable.  I don't know about 3D performance, I assume it's fine, but for me whats important is underclocking the card to reduce the heat so that this card doesn't die like the previous one did.

Looks like I'll have to find a separte clocking utility or wage yet another attempt at making Frankendrivers.

I'm about to make the leap, hence my visit here.  If the drivers are still messed up (as I expect), I'll hook it up to my external monitor and install the old v5.6 drivers.

UPDATE: There isn't an ATI driver on the RTM disc, so it boots up just fine with "standard vga" as the display type.  However, because I had selected automatic updates it went and automatically downloaded a the latest ATI driver and installed on reboot.  Machine then booted up with the messed screen we've all come to expect from ATI.

Solution is to NOT enable automatic updates when you install Vista RTM, install Catalyst v5.6 (Omega version or other notebook-enabled version), then re-enable automatic updates (but look out for the ATI drivers...)

That's odd.  Since you just re-installed, perhaps you should try re-installing again.

Technical Issues / Re: Battery won't charge

That's a nearly impossible call to make.  You need to find another battery to test with if possible.  But, I'd hunch towards battery.

Powerstrip will work with any monitor.  ANY.

I know the issue is in setting the right V and H scync, but what's odd is that those numbers don't seem to matter at all, what works is when the pixel clock is set at 70.875 for my 1280x800 display.  My panel is made by CMO, so others might need a different speed.

It's still a kludge.  The login screen is still messy, it's readable now, but the screen isn't perfect until powerstrip loads.

I installed the latest public Vista build, 5472, last night.  As expected, when the Vista booted up for the first time the screen was a total out-of-sync mess, but the the external monitor showed up fine, and even in the correct 1440x900 resolution.

I did some searching and found that there are some other groups of Radeon Mobility users that ATI has also stopped support, and thus came about a few different proposed solutions for getting the display up.

Right now I'm using "PowerStrip" to tweak the monitor settings so that I have a proper 1280x800 display on my x1000.  PowerStrip has the ability to write the correct monitor settings to the registry, but I haven't had any luck getting it to write the correct settings yet, so my display is still slightly garbled until PowerStrip loads up itself makes the proper settings for my built-in LCD.

I've submitted a report to Microsoft about the problem, and expect them to lean heavily on ATI to address the issue.  The monitor support was there before, and it can be there again, it's just going to take Microsoft calling up ATI and saying, "get your act together.  Vista needs to ship with ATI drivers that recognize all of your crappy mislabeled hardware".

and there's always eBay for $10-$20... though you might not get a great power supply.

XP is rather hosed on my x1000 as it's been over a year since I installed it.  Since I now have my desktop computer again, and it's been gradually re-comissioned as my main computer, I'm going to toss Vista on my notebook and see what I can work out with the drivers.  Maybe those old Omega Drivers based on Catalyst 5.6 will work fine... maybe I can make frankenstein drivers that work too.

Trust me.  I was one of the people all over this issue at the previous x1000forums--your symptoms perfectly fit the profile of a failed video card.

This is the infamous failed graphics card problem.

Don't bother wedging or hacking it as others have done, go out and get yourself a *NEW* replacement card.  They run about ~$100.  I'm on my second card, it's been in the machine for 8 or 10 months now without issue.  That said, I run the card underclocked at ~105mhz which means it runs much cooler.  Heat is the issue--heat of the GPU, which isn't going to MELT anything, but it sure will kill the card.

Given that the last several versions of ATI's drivers haven't worked on the x1000, I'd say it's high time to sell the machine if you have hopes of running Vista.  HP isn't going to do a damn thing about getting Vista video drivers going either.  it's over... sell the machine while XP's current and you can get a good buck for it!  I still have mine, but I believe the writing is on the wall.

Plus, Core Duo's blazing-fast!
