Technical Issues / Compaq X1000 Laptop Need Help Issue

hi therre i have a compaq x1000 laptop and i was on it surfing the web and the battery was low and it went into hibernation mode and when i plugged in the a/c adapter the laptop comes on fan runs for a sec or 2 and then shuts off consatally and when i take the battery out of it and hook up the a/c only to it it wont boot up at all? but  put the battery back in it boots up for a sec or 2 with the fan running and then shuts off again what could be the problem with it??? 

compaq x1000
windows xp home
1.4ghz centrio wireless
512 mb ram
15.4 screen
and its only 3 years 8 months old  any suggestion would help me alot since it out of warranty   ty.
