General / Re: Windows 7 on nx7010 (x1000)

Just finished installing Windows 7 RC on the X1000 its running great.  I am using a 1.7Ghz CPU and 1 Gig of ram.  I had the problem with the video card like above, just manually install the built in ATI Radeon Mobility 9000 works great at 1280x800 32bit.  Also when you first install Windows 7 and plug it into your network it will do an update, after that update, go into the Device Manager and do a Scan for Hardware changes, it will automatically install all the missing drivers with on exception:

Intel(R) 82801DBM LPC Interface Controller - 24CC

Has anyone been able to find a Vista driver that will work for the above.  On Intel's web site the only chipset drivers I could find are for Windows XP lol.

I was able to do this as well. I'm now using Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG.. I was able to bypass the whitelist by flashing modified bios and by disabling the CRC check from the windows hp flash utiliy. :p

can you post how to do that or post up the modified bios

stick with the intel 54g mini pci's otherwise you need to do some nasty hacks using Linux, not worth it.  Or you can use any card if you use the older original BIOS on the laptop.

I wound up with a 1.7 and at max performance in NHC its about 50 degrees, and about 10 degrees cooler on max battery.  In Counter Strike Source it can get up to the 70's.

I wanted to see how far I could push the CPU in the x1000 without a fan plugged in and I could get it up to 90 degrees just shy of thermal shutdown running HotCPU, not bad if with just passive cooling it won't shut down so there is some margin of safety.

The 2.1 must be a real scorcher, maybe you could jimmy in a more powerful fan in the case and splce a second wire for the power?

start with a new lcd cable, that explains why it changes when you move the hinge.

try ebay.

the electrical contact cleaner fixed it!  Give it a try if your on/off button is failing.

Upgrades and Accessories / Just upgraded to Dothan
February 22, 2008, 09:10:33 PM
Man I love tinkering with this old X1000.

Today I found a Dothan 1.7 CPU inside some old ThinkPad junkers we were about to throw out because they won't boot and are out of warranty.  They use the same ram as the X1000 and the ThinkPad T42's all had Dothans in them.

So thanks to this web site still being up I said what the heck and tried to swap one in, thanks for keeping the X1000 site going all these years kf, those disassembly pics are  awesome, I never would have been able to do it without those.

Turned out great, I was afraid the reason the old T42's weren't booting was because of fried CPUs, but it must have been something else that failed.    Note I have Hmonitor running and even at full 1.7Mhz the temp never goes above 60 degrees even when running Hot CPU Tester.  Whoever on here was over heating with their Dothan 2.1 should disassmble their case and remove the huge dust hairball in the heatsink assembly and try again, make sure you clean the CPU and heatsink with electrical contact cleaner and apply brand new Artic Silver.

Here are my CPU-Z results.

All finished, looks brand new again.

While I had the notebook apart today I investigated this, its not the plastic that pushes on the button, but the actualy button itself is flakey, even if I push the rubber button with a screwdriver its hit or miss.

I'm thinking spraying the button with electrical contact cleaner might make it work better, just don't have any right now to try.

Quote from: bwbuy on January 18, 2008, 08:59:03 AMIt has been heavily upgraded though.  It now has 2 GB RAM, 64MB video, 100 GB 7200 rpm HDD, 2200BG wifi + Bluetooth, 2.1 GHz Dothan CPU, and 1920x1200 LCD.

I've read on there the 2.1+ Dothan CPU causes the machine to over heat and shut down, is that true, otherwise I might upgrade to one.  On here someone said althrogh bigger CPUs fit, the 1.8 is the only ones that do not over heat, I find that hard to believe since the Dothan should be running cooler.  Maybe the poster just never cleaned the dust out of his fan.

still using mine 3 years+ later.  I recently replaced all the panels for cosmetic reasons, and now it looks brand new again.  I love this machine.  As far as problems, I had the video card die like everyone, that was fixed under warranty and never failed again, I had the sticking hinges, but fixed that with WD40, the silver paint rubbed off so I replaced the palm wrest, the hard drive died, so I put in a bigger one.  I also upgraded the DVD drive to a Dual Layer DVD burner from NEC.  Still have no real reason to upgrade.  Its been a really great computer.

General / Does X1000 Bluetooth have A2DP profile?
February 16, 2008, 11:26:49 PM
I want to buy some bluetooth speakers but they all say the device has to have the A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) required to take full advantage of wireless music, does anyone know if the X1000 has this profile, or drivers available that give it this profile?

anyone found a solution for this?  Its like you have to press it multiple times to get the unit to turn on.
