Upgrades and Accessories / Re: X1010 Ram and Video Upgrade

I'll secong the CPU upgrade.  I also has a 1.3 Banias and found a 1.7 Dothan for $32 on Ebay.  SuperPi 1m went from 111 secconds to 48.  Make sure you get a 400Mhz FSB CPU though (ie 1.7, 1.8,1.9 ect), not a 1.73 or 1.86, those are 533 FSB.

You installed the wrong CPU.  The 1.73 is a 533 FSB CPU (133x4) with a l13x multiplier.  The x1000 only supports 400mhz FSB (100x4) so what you got is a 100mhz x a cpu with a 13 multplier which equals 1300...I just replaced mine with a 1.7 dothan with a 17x multiplier which is what I think you meant to do.  Off your cpu on Ebay and get one with a 400mhz fsb.

Upgrades and Accessories / Quick CPU Upgrade Question
August 17, 2007, 11:27:14 PM
Managed to pick up a 1.8 Dothan pretty cheap.  It's used so it has no thermo pad.  Question is can I use some Artic Silver paste that I already have or do I need a thermo pad to fill a gap?  If it has to have a pad does anyone have a cheap source?  TIA...
