Linux / Mandriva 2006.0
July 04, 2006, 08:12:44 PM
Just wanted to let everyone know that this flavor installed near perfectly.

I had to set the keyboard volume/mute buttons in the keyboard shortcuts, had to download the driver rpm for the wireless.  But other than that, it has been very very easy install.

I've gotten everything I need to do nearly anything i want.

I just installed the latest version of Mandriva (2006.0)

When it gets to the boot manager, it shows the following choices:

linux-i686-up-4GB
linux
linux-nonfb
failsafe
windows

Now, I understand all of them except the first one.  What is "linux-i686-up-4GB" versus the "linux" choice?  I googled, but didn't see any explanation of it.

Feedback / Stickey request

Nice job getting this stuff going again....hopefully we will all breath some life back into this group.

I was wondering if it might not be a good idea to post all the gory details of the specifications of these notebooks.

For example, the horizontal sync rates, mobo info, graphics, etc....  So that when we have questions about certain pieces of hardware, we can just go to the sticky post.

I know that during my Debian linux install it asked all sorts of details on the LCD panel, that I didn't know - including the horizontal sync, etc...

Just a thought.

(I searched through but didn't see one, so if there is already one, ignore me and delete this :)  )
