I've read the overheating issue. I dont think I have that problem. It started recently when the screen would get pixelated....lines would appear, disappear and reappear in diff spots...all in the meantime my pc is frozen. I have to reboot by doing a hard reset....aka holding the power button down. When I turn it on again, sometimes it comes on....sometimes I have to move the screen up and down or press certain parts around the laptop hard.  Then it would boot up again...it happens a lot now. I thought it was my cheapy memory but I've had the memory since I bought the laptop and upgraded the memory. I just want to know if it really is the graphics card. Is that what most ppl have problems with. Anyone replaced the grpahics card ? Did it fix the problem completely????

I dont think my graphics card overheated or melted anything b/c if it did it wouldnt be booting up any longer. it stays fine for quite a few hours sometimes, and sometimes for no more than 1 hour.

This is the infamous failed graphics card problem.

Don't bother wedging or hacking it as others have done, go out and get yourself a *NEW* replacement card.  They run about ~$100.  I'm on my second card, it's been in the machine for 8 or 10 months now without issue.  That said, I run the card underclocked at ~105mhz which means it runs much cooler.  Heat is the issue--heat of the GPU, which isn't going to MELT anything, but it sure will kill the card.

hrmm. hope u r right. i'll upgrade the card. might give a perofrmance boost withthe extra ram anyway.

Trust me.  I was one of the people all over this issue at the previous x1000forums--your symptoms perfectly fit the profile of a failed video card.

have you repair your card yet?
De-Luxe is right, don't put any wedges.  Some of the guys are very enthusiastic about that but this is a mistake.
If you haven't done anything yet, I will repair it.  It will cost you much less than you'll buy a new card from ebay.
Don't buy from HP.  They are ripping customers off asking $200 for the card.
Let me know. I'm in Vancouver, BC.
