I'm trying to install operating system to Compaq X1000 but the optical drive does not even start spinning.  As fast as I turn the power on the green LED in optical drive starts blinking.

I didn't find this mentioned in trouble shooting guides.  Anybody know the meaning?

Think I just figured it out.  Mine has been blinking for ages.  It seemed to have trouble reading disks from time to time, but not too bad. (watched a DVD w/o troubles a couple months ago)  A couple weeks ago it started making a loud humming noise and it caused the system to "stick" at the bios screen for prolonged times.  I decided to replace the drive with a DVD burner (if you need suggestions on where to get replacement parts, Message me...I had good luck with prices).  No more blinking lights and great read times.
