Upgrading my CPU on an early version motherboard X1000

I have a 1.4GHz Banias CPU with 1mb level 2 cache in my x1030US which has an early motherboard with an A3 revision .  I seem to recall reading on the old X1000 forum pages that I could not upgrade to a Dothan CPU because the A3 motherboard revision prevents me from using a 2mb level 2 cache.  Please let me know what my CPU upgrade options are.  Am I stuck with only upgrading to a faster Banias CPU such as a 1.6GHz or maybe a 1.7GHz?

I also had one of the early MBs but had success to upgrading to a Dothan 1.8 GHz 400MHz CPU. Are there any specifics you need that can help you decide? I've found I get less battery life with the CPU upgrade (I had the 1.4 banias as well)

Just bought a 2ghz Dothan off e-bay, I have an A3 motherboard, I will let you know.

Compaq X1030US / 1GB Ram / 100G-7200 RPM HD / 32MB Video / Bluetooth / Intel 2200BG Wireless

The Bluetooth/HD/Ram/Wireless  all upgrades...  It's been a good laptop for the last 3 years bought new from Best Buy.

Yes, it works!  The upgrade went smoothly! I now have an extra 1.4mhz CPU...

Spent more time getting the little plastic bezel that has the power button in it off and on than anything else... I HATE pry marks, and you have to be gentle and yet a little tough here and there on it...

Upgrade time took about 20-25 mins total...

Removed Battery Keyboard, Bezel next to KB with power button, side speaker cover, CPU fan, Heatsink & cpu... Installed reverse.
